From Painting to Mug: Testing My First Wonders of Gaia Enamel Mug
My first self-designed Wonders of Gaia mug has arrived, and holding it in my hands for the first time felt surprisingly special.
The design began as one of my nature-inspired artworks, full of botanical shapes, soft textures, and little details that remind me of flowers, leaves, light, and the quiet beauty of the natural world. For the mug, I selected sections from the original painting and turned them into a wraparound design.
The first test version is an enamel mug, which gives it a nostalgic feeling right away. It is light, simple, and beautiful — the kind of mug that brings back childhood memories. We used to have enamel mugs at home, so this material feels familiar in a very personal way.
I also added small quotes about nature, joy, and wonder, along with a QR code that leads back to my website. I like the idea that the mug can be more than just an object: a small everyday beauty item with a story behind it.
This first test mug is not the final version yet. I am now looking at how the colors, quotes, QR code, and overall feeling work in real use. More test pieces have already been ordered, and I will continue adjusting the design as the series develops.
But already, this first mug feels like a good beginning: light, nostalgic, personal, and quietly beautiful.
The Wonders of Gaia mug series is still in progress — coming to Etsy soon.
