The Quiet Language of Symbols
We all have our own symbols in life.
Shapes, numbers, animals, or signs that keep returning to us.
We don’t always know why certain things speak to us.
While creating Monad, I found myself thinking about symbols and the meanings we attach to them.
Perhaps this is how the quiet language of symbols begins to unfold — one shape, one thought, and one discovery at a time.
In my art, I notice that I keep returning to certain shapes.
Sometimes it might be a plant leaf, sometimes a small pattern I want to add to a painting because it simply feels right in that particular place. At times, I hide shapes within the artwork.
I don’t necessarily think of them as symbols.
Yet they follow me from one painting to another.
Personal symbolism can grow out of our experiences, memories, and preferences — or develop gradually, without us consciously planning it.
When a golden curve calls for a slightly different kind of brush… 😂
Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places.
Today’s art tool of choice? A snow brush!
Sometimes you just have to think outside the brush box. 🎨
And perhaps not everything needs an explanation.
Sometimes a shape simply feels right
