When Autumn Strips the Landscape Bare 🍁

Autumn is closing in.

Rain lashes against the windows, leaves are flying everywhere, and outside, the weather is raging like a monsoon.

Perhaps it is time to accept the situation and let my overly romantic paintings rest for a while.

Yesterday, two new dark and abstract painting bases came into being almost by themselves.
Outside, in the middle of the autumn wind and rain.

A dark abstract painting base with geometric shapes in black and grey, accented by ochre, orange and green tones.

‍ ‍

When I look at the world around me, I notice how the leaves and plants are gradually retreating into dormancy. The lushness of summer fades, and something else begins to emerge from the landscape.

Bare trees draw their straight and winding lines against the sky.
Houses, garages and fences appear from behind the foliage.
The fading stems of summer flowers are still standing, the last little reminders of the growing season that has passed.

What remains are structures. Those created by nature, and those built by humans.

‍ ‍

Perhaps this is why straight lines and abstract forms are beginning to draw me in.
Darkness, layers and indistinct surfaces seem to belong to this time of year.

Not everything needs to be beautiful or clearly defined.

Sometimes the landscape itself is enough. It offers an idea, but it doesn't dictate the outcome.

And so these two painting bases were born – in the middle of autumn, surrounded by rain and wind.

It remains to be seen what kind of worlds will eventually emerge from them.

Perhaps autumn doesn't take inspiration away after all.

It simply changes its form ❤️
